STORIES

The Tairua Heritage Centre offers a rich and welcoming window into the history of Tairua, Hikuai, and Pauanui on the Coromandel’s east coast. The centre houses an impressive collection of historic maps, photographs, records, and personal stories — including the extensive Father Bennett papers.

Each year the Heritage Society provides the people of the community and visitors with an amateur show. These shows focus on diverse themes from early settlers logging kauri spars at Te Karo, Sailor's Grave Bay to the rock and roll era of the 1960s. A few images provide a glimpse of the cast, in and out of, costume.
